With over 30 years of experience in senior positions at the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), the government agency responsible for procuring and supplying equipment to the Swedish Armed Forces, Mr Sjöborg has extensive expertise in defence procurement, international cooperation, and legal affairs. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency Mr Sjöborg served as General Counsel, Security Director and Head of the Legal and Security Branch at FMV and was a Member of the Swedish Fund Selection Agency (Fondtorgsnämnden) in 2023-2025.

He has notably served as Deputy National Armaments Director of Sweden and Director of Special Operations Forces Acquisition.

Throughout his career in multinational cooperation, he has played a key role in major European defence programmes, including IRIS-T, METEOR and the Nordic Standard Helicopter Programme (NH90).

He has held several high-level governance roles, including membership of the FMV Executive Management Board, the European Defence Agency’s National Armaments Directors Steering Board, and the Board of the Swedish Fund Selection Agency. He has also chaired the Executive Committee of the European Framework Agreement, supporting industrial restructuring and cooperation among major European defence nations.
